Support in Scotland
Households in Scotland have access to a different set of support schemes compared to England and Wales, managed by Home Energy Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.
Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan
This scheme provides a combination of interest-free loans and non-repayable grants for energy improvements.
Heating grants
- £7,500 grant for air source or ground source heat pumps.
- An additional £7,500 interest-free loan is also available if needed.
- Households in rural or island areas may be eligible for an uplift, bringing the grant to £9,000.
Energy efficiency grants
- Grants of up to 75% of the cost of insulation and glazing, capped at £7,500.
- The remaining 25% can be covered by an interest-free loan.
Warmer Homes Scotland
This is a separate scheme for people who are struggling to heat their homes and meet certain eligibility criteria (e.g., being over 75, or receiving certain benefits). It provides a full package of home improvements to make the home warmer and more affordable to heat.
