Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)
The Great British Insulation Scheme (formerly known as ECO+) is designed to deliver a single insulation measure to a wider range of households in Great Britain than the ECO4 scheme.
What is covered?
The scheme usually covers one major insulation measure per property, such as:
- Cavity wall insulation
- Loft insulation
- Under-floor insulation
- Solid wall insulation (internal or external)
- Pitched roof insulation
Eligibility
There are two main groups eligible for GBIS:
1. The Low-income Group
Households receiving certain means-tested benefits (similar to ECO4).
2. The General Group
Households that meet the following criteria:
- Live in a property with an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G.
- Are in Council Tax bands A-D in England, or A-E in Scotland and Wales.
How to apply
You can apply directly through the official government portal or by contacting an energy supplier.
- Check your eligibility online.
- If eligible, your energy supplier will contact you to arrange a survey.
- An installer will visit to confirm the measure is suitable for your home.
- The insulation is installed, often for free or at a significantly reduced cost.
